3 Days Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour

After breakfast, your driver collects you from your hotel or riad in Marrakech at around 8:30 a.m. and you set off across the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), stopping for photos of the High Atlas peaks and traditional Berber villages along the way.

Continue to the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 and the backdrop for films such as Gladiator, The Mummy and Game of Thrones. After a free lunch stop, drive on to Ouarzazate to see the famous Atlas Film Studios and the Taourirt Kasbah.

In the afternoon, pass through the Skoura palm grove and the Valley of Roses, following the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley, where you enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel overlooking the gorge.

After breakfast, drive to the spectacular Todra Gorge, where canyon walls rise up to 300 m. Take a short walk through the gorge before continuing past the palm groves of Tinghir and Tinejdad.

Stop for lunch, then head to Erfoud, known for its fossils and dates, and on to Merzouga and the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here you leave the vehicle and set off on a camel trek of about 1.5 hours, pausing among the dunes to watch the sunset and try sandboarding if you wish.

Arrive at your desert camp, where you are welcomed with mint tea, followed by dinner, Berber music around the campfire and an overnight stay in a private tent under the stars.

Wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, then return to Merzouga by camel or by 4×4 for breakfast. From here you travel north towards Fes through the Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s largest palm groves, with panoramic viewpoints along the way.

Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop in Midelt for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the cedar forest near Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques, and the alpine-style town of Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco.

Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon, where your driver drops you at your accommodation and the tour comes to an end.
